After competing at Speaker Slam’s final event of their 2018 season, themed “Power of Community” on September 25 at Lula Lounge, Voice Share Founder & CEO Greg Frankson had won hearts and minds with his emotional delivery and raw vulnerability. His speech, “The Poverty of Silence," was a major highlight of the evening for many in attendance. Unfortunately for Frankson, he was disqualified from the competition for going over his allotted time.
“I felt like I'd already won when I walked off the stage,” Frankson wrote in a recap post on his Facebook timeline. “The inner competitor is still pissed, but the rest of me is at peace with not moving on.”
It turns out that the organizers of Speaker Slam had other ideas. Along with the first and second place finishers at the September show, Frankson was invited to participate in the Grand Slam anyway — an invitation he quickly and wholeheartedly accepted.
The 2018 Grand Slam takes place in the Jane Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts on Wednesday, November 28. Tickets are now on sale through Ticketmaster, or you can contact Voice Share to obtain a limited number of discounted tickets directly from the competitor.
The theme of the finale is “Human Connection,” which should lead to some very powerful performances by the finalists. You don’t want to miss this!
